Our top tips to stress less and relax more

Modern life is full of so much causes of stress so it’s important to make a conscious effort to relax and reduce the stress in our lives. So, what are the best ways to get started? We share our favourites below, and if you have any suggestions be sure to let us know in the comments.

Diet

A poor diet can have so many bad effects on our health, but one you may not have thought of is stress. A healthy diet is proven to have effects on anxiety on stress, so why not take the time to look at what you are eating and whether you could make some small improvements that will help to reduce your stress?

Exercise

Of course, increasing your exercise is going to have many benefits and one of those is the effect it has on stress. Exercise has an effect on the stress hormones your body produces and will help you get better sleep and a goods night rest is another great way to reduce your stress making exercise an awesome double whammy of stress reducing magic.

Take a bath

A warm soak in the tub is one of the most relaxing ways to unwind after a stressful day. Add whatever you personally enjoy to make your bath even better, whether you like a super-bubbly bath or like to add some essential oils for a relaxing, fresh scent. Combine with some music or light some candles to make this an even better stress reducer.

Light some candles

Candles are a great way to help yourself unwind, a nice calming scent following you around your home is a simple and effective way of helping your stress dissappear. Look into what the different scents can do for you and pick the best for whatever is stressing you out. 

Write things down

Sometimes the best way, is to get everything out on a piece of paper. The act of transferring all thats stored up inside you onto something else can have a profound effect and help lift some of that stress. Keeping all of these notes can help you to look back on what was previously stressing you and see how far you’ve come and what you did before that you can use again the next time stress starts to build up.

Take time to laugh

Laughter truly is the best medicine, watching something that makes you laugh or spending some time with those that make you laugh can be some of the best stress release out there. So unwind, watch your hilarious movie of choice with your favourite snacks and forget about everything causing you stress in your life.

Listen to some music

Music is an effective way of reducing your stress, music can lower your blood pressure, drop your heart rate and reduce anxiety and depression. So turn up your favourite tunes, sing along at the top of your voice and have some fun! 

Spend time with your pets

Pets are awesome at helping to lower stress levels, our favourite furry companions are proven to reduce our stress, anxiety and depression. They are also great at getting us up and active which also has a positive effect on reducing stress. 

Take back control

Sometimes, the best way to reduce stress is to take control of our lives, this is important when others are causing us stress or increasing the stress we are already suffering from. Learning the art of saying no is extremely effective and is an important lesson to learn.

Spend time with others

Spending time with the people we love can be great in helping to reduce our stress. Hanging out with your friends and family, no matter what you spend the time doing is a great way to have some fun and forget about the stress in our lives.

Get some 'me' time

This might seem strange right after saying spend time with others but sometimes the most effective thing is to take yourself out of a stressful situation and just spend some time doing what makes you happy. This can involve anything else on this list or may be something that you specifically enjoy and if you know thats going to help, be sure to take the time to do this.

Try something new

Being stuck in a rut can be pretty depressing and this isn’t helpful when you are stressed. Trying out something new is a great way to have some fun and find a new way of relieving your stress.
